Our multi-generational spa family is always excited to experience something new in the wellness world. We’ve tried everything from traditional spa treatments to innovative recovery tools, but this time something felt a little different.
Recently, we had the opportunity to experience Aescape, a robot-powered massage system available at Equinox in Highland Park, Dallas.
Yes, an actual robotic massage.
Naturally, we were curious. Could a robot really deliver a relaxing, personalized massage experience?
Short answer: we were skeptical, and then we were impressed.
What made the experience even better was the thoughtful guidance from Evan Sigel, who helped coordinate sessions for our whole family and made sure we understood everything Aescape offers before we even arrived.
One feature Evan mentioned ahead of time was Aescape’s newest option called Extra Focus, which turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the experience.
Here’s how it works.
Before the session, guests select an area they want extra attention on, such as:
Upper Back & Shoulders
Lower Back
Hips & Glutes
Hamstrings
Calves
For us, that technology translated into something simple: a massage that felt surprisingly comfortable and customized, especially for a robot.
Aescape is designed to bring precision technology into the world of massage therapy. The experience begins with a body scan that maps your back and muscle structure. From there, the system uses machine learning and sensors to create a massage tailored specifically to your body.
The innovation has already been recognized at a major level. In fact, TIME named Aescape one of the Best Innovations of the Year, describing it as:
“Aescape’s fully automated robot arms reimagine massage with a full-body scan and machine learning to create a personalized plan.”
What we appreciated most was how responsive the experience felt. Even though the massage is powered by robotics, it still allows for adjustments and personalization in real time.
Check out our IG for videos showing the relaxing screen backgrounds available during your session, the control panel, and a time-lapse of Cierra’s full experience.
Our Final Thoughts:
Cary: “The massage was limited but effective for specific areas and definitely has my interest. That said, I do enjoy a quality aroma oil and skin-to-skin contact with a gifted therapist.”
Cierra: “Aescape doesn’t replace the wonders of an opposable thumb, but it’s great for people who need a moment to relax outside of normal spa hours or have discomfort they wouldn’t classify as chronic. It’s something you really have to experience for yourself.”
Kim: “The warm, rhythmic pressure and simple broad strokes landed differently than detailed hands-on therapeutic touch. Overall relaxing and worth the experience.”
Kiara: “I personalized mine to focus on my lower body and loved that it knew exactly where to apply more pressure in my legs. At one point I set it to the highest pressure just to see how it would feel, and it handled the intensity surprisingly well without causing pain, which was impressive given the harder materials.”
The overall experience felt like a glimpse into the future of wellness. Aescape blends massage therapy with advanced technology in a way that is both impressive and intriguing.
Of course, going into the experience, our biggest question wasn’t about the technology. It was about the human element.
Massage is such a personal experience. A skilled therapist reads your body, adjusts pressure, and intuitively finds areas of tension.
In our case, that question felt even more personal because our own Kim Collier is a massage therapist and wellness experience educator. You could say we’ve been a little spoiled when it comes to massages.
So we wondered: Can a robot really compete with that?
The honest answer is not exactly, and that’s okay.
Aescape isn’t trying to replace the intuition and connection of a skilled therapist. What it offers instead is something different: consistency, precision, and convenience.
If you’re curious about where spa, recovery, and technology are heading next, Aescape is definitely worth experiencing.
For us, it was a reminder that the wellness world continues to evolve, and sometimes the most interesting experiences are the ones that are completely new.
